The Grid, as it’s called, is Luratia’s first generation Internet. It was originally developed by weather scientists who needed to transmit, receive, store and aggregate large quantities of real-time data intercontinentally.
The Grid was established long before the advent of quantum computing and remains a fairly simple data platform relative to the Mesh, Luratia’s second Internet.
After decades of escalating data crime, data warfare and the rise of a black market, the Data Rights Act was passed in an international tribunal. All non-governmental and non-corporate information stored on the Grid became public property, universally owned. This wiped out the black market and reduced data crime significantly.
Governments, corporations and the wealthy have commissioned hundreds of private Super-Grids, attracting the activity of data criminals.
