Kipper seaweed is a fantastically slimy purple seaplant that is used for many purposes among the people of Southern Wershonia: the liquid is used for dye and ink, the pulp is used to make paper, the dried leaves are salted and eaten as a snack. Its wet leaves, when held tight, can be used as a whistle.
